Canadian Electronic Collection of Air Transportation Statistics
In the early 2000s, the Canadian Electronic Collection of Air Transportation Statistics (ECATS) was launched to enhance the quality, scope, and timeliness of air transportation statistics. The program supports government policy development, planning, and informed decision-making across the aviation sector.
What is the Canadian ECATS?
The Canadian ECATS is a mandatory reporting program for any aircraft operator flying within, to, or from Canada. This includes both commercial and non-commercial flights. What must be reported, and how often, depends on the type of flight and the size of the aircraft.
Information required under ECATS includes flight details (such as date, time, and aerodromes), aircraft information, and passenger and cargo data.
Did you know?
ECATS data is shared under formal data-sharing agreements with Statistics Canada, Transport Canada, and the Canadian Transportation Agency.
What are the obligations under the ECATS?
Aircraft operators with reportable flights within, to, or from Canada must:
- Create an account in Transport Canada’s ECATS portal.
- Submit the required information electronically through the ECATS portal by the end of the month following each reporting period.
